The short answer

The best glasses for computer work are focused at your screen distance, about 20 to 26 inches, with a clear area wide enough to use without tilting your head, an anti-reflective coating and a fit to your pupillary distance. If your desk holds a phone, a keyboard, a monitor and a person across from you, a multifocal lens made for a desk covers all of it. EV6™ holds clear focus from 18 inches to 6 feet.

Checklist

What to look for

  • A power for your screen

Your reading power is set for a book, about 18 to 22 inches away. A monitor at 25 to 30 inches needs less. The strength guide has the table.

  • A range that matches your desk

A desk holds several distances at once. A single-distance lens holds one of them sharp. A multifocal lens made for a desk holds the span.

  • A wide clear area

In any multifocal lens the clear corridor narrows the farther the lens reaches. A lens that stops at the room is wider at the screen. See office and computer progressives.

  • An anti-reflective coating

It cuts reflections of the screen and overhead lights off the lenses, for you and for anyone watching you on a video call.

  • A fit to your face

Lenses work best centered on your pupils, which takes your PD. You can measure it at home.

Single-distance readers

When one distance is enough

If your screen work happens at one fixed distance, a single-distance pair in the right strength is a sensible choice. Our reading glasses come in +1.00, +1.50, +2.00 and +2.50, from $145, with lenses cut to your measurements.

If you also pick up your phone, read printouts or look across the desk, a multifocal lens holds those distances in the same pair.

“One pair isn't enough...”

Quality frames and good vision. I'm about 90% happy with my vision when I used my new glasses for reading and computer. I say 90% because the 'reading power' I selected from from a pair of basic drug store readers and mi…

How it works

From your order to your desk

1

Pick a frame and a range

Each range comes in 35 frames from L&F, Ombraz, RAEN and STATE Optical.

2

Order your reading power

The power you’d use to read a book, from +1.00 to +2.75. Add your PD, which you can measure at home in about a minute.

3

We make them in about two weeks

We digitally surface, coat and edge the lenses in California. Shipping is free and takes about three days.

How they’re made

Made to your measurements in California

Digitally surfaced

The curves for your power are cut into a single lens blank by computer-guided equipment, accurate to a hundredth of a diopter.

A full stack of coatings

An anti-reflective layer stops the bounce-back glare. Oleophobic and hydrophobic layers keep fingerprints and water from sticking. A hard coat protects against scratches.

Edged for your frame

A multi-axis edger cuts each lens so the power sits exactly in front of your pupils in the frame you chose. We inspect the lens at every stage. If we find a blemish, we start over with a fresh blank.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What are the best glasses for computer use?

Glasses focused at your screen distance, with a wide clear area, an anti-reflective coating and a fit to your PD. For a desk with a phone, keyboard and monitor, EV6 covers 18 inches to 6 feet.

What strength computer reading glasses should I get?

For a single-distance pair, a little less than your reading power for a monitor at 25 to 30 inches. For EV lenses, order your full reading power, because the lens eases it down to screen distance as you look up.

Are premium reading glasses worth it for computer work?

If you’re at a screen for hours, yes. A pair made for your desk is digitally surfaced to your power and PD, with anti-reflective coatings and a range that matches your desk.

Are computer reading glasses good for Zoom calls?

Yes, if the screen sits inside the lens range. An anti-reflective coating also cuts the reflection of the screen in your lenses, the glare other people see on camera.

Do they filter blue light?

Yes. Blue light filtering is built into the lens material of every EV lens at no extra cost, so it can’t wear off.

What if they aren’t right for me?

You have 30 days from delivery to return them for a full refund, with a prepaid label. Within 60 days we’ll remake the lenses at no charge if the power or measurements need adjusting, or exchange them for a different frame style, color or lens option. Start any of these through the contact form.
