The short answer
Standard progressive readers put full reading power at the bottom of the lens and no magnification at the top, so one lens reaches from your phone to the horizon. That leaves a narrow corridor, with a thin band for a laptop or monitor. EV6 and EV20 are progressive reading glasses optimized for a workspace and for the house. EV6 stops at 6 feet and EV20 at 20 feet, so their corridors are wider. EVinfinity™ is our progressive reader for driving and outdoors.
How they work
Progressive readers and EV Readers™
A pair of readers focuses at one distance, about 18 to 22 inches from your eyes. That’s where your phone or a book sits. Anything farther out goes soft, so you end up sliding the glasses down your nose or taking them off to look across the room.
A progressive reader changes power down the lens, from full reading power at the bottom to none at the top. The clear path up the middle is called the corridor. Because a standard progressive reader reaches all the way to the horizon, its corridor is narrow. The middle distances, where a laptop or monitor sits, get a thin band, so people move their heads to find focus.
EV6 and EV20 use the same idea with less range. EV6 eases your reading power off across the desk and stops at six feet. EV20 reaches the far side of the room and stops there. The distance a lens doesn’t have to reach comes back to you as a wider corridor.
Three ranges
Where each lens is sharp
Pick the range for how you spend your time. A desk points to EV6. A day spent moving around the house or office points to EV20. Driving and time outdoors point to EVinfinity. Compare the ranges side by side.

18 inches to 6 feet

See the difference
A wider corridor at the desk
A standard progressive reaches all the way to the horizon, so its corridor is narrow. EV6 stops at six feet. Everything past that comes back to you as width across the lens.
The same desk through two lenses. EV6 stops at six feet, and the width it saves shows up as corridor.

How it works
From your order to your desk
Pick a frame and a range
Each range comes in 35 frames from L&F, Ombraz, RAEN and STATE Optical.
Order your reading power
The power you’d use to read a book, from +1.00 to +2.75. Add your PD, which you can measure at home in about a minute.
We make them in about two weeks
We digitally surface, coat and edge the lenses in California. Shipping is free and takes about three days.
How they’re made
Made to your measurements in California
Digitally surfaced
The curves for your power are cut into a single lens blank by computer-guided equipment, accurate to a hundredth of a diopter.
A full stack of coatings
An anti-reflective layer stops the bounce-back glare. Oleophobic and hydrophobic layers keep fingerprints and water from sticking. A hard coat protects against scratches.
Edged for your frame
A multi-axis edger cuts each lens so the power sits exactly in front of your pupils in the frame you chose. We inspect the lens at every stage. If we find a blemish, we start over with a fresh blank.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy progressive readers without a prescription?
Yes. EVinfinity, our progressive reader, is ordered in a reading power from +1.00 to +2.75. So are EV6 and EV20, which stop at 6 and 20 feet for a wider corridor. Then you send us your PD. If you need distance correction, EV6 and EV20 can be made to your prescription with Custom Rx, or you can order progressive prescription eyeglasses.
Are EV Readers progressive readers?
EVinfinity is. EV6 and EV20 are progressive reading glasses optimized for shorter ranges, so their corridors are wider. A standard progressive reader runs from reading power to no magnification at the top.
Which range should I choose?
EV6 for a desk and a computer, from 18 inches to 6 feet. EV20 for moving around the house or the office, from 20 inches to 20 feet. EVinfinity for driving and time outdoors, from near vision all the way out. You can own one range or several.
Which reading power should I order?
Order the power you’d use to read a book or your phone up close. That full power sits at the bottom of the lens. The lens eases it down for your screen and the room. If you already wear drugstore readers, their number is your starting point. Which power to order walks through it.
Where can I buy progressive readers?
Online here. EVinfinity is our progressive reader. For a desk or the house, EV6 and EV20 give you a wider corridor. Choose a frame, order your reading power and send your PD. We make the lenses in California in about two weeks.
How much do EV Readers cost?
On L&F frames, EV6 starts at $220, EV20 at $245 and EVinfinity at $270. Ombraz, RAEN and STATE Optical frames cost more. The price is for the frame and lenses together.
What if they aren’t right for me?
You have 30 days from delivery to return them for a full refund, with a prepaid label. Within 60 days we’ll remake the lenses at no charge if the power or measurements need adjusting, or exchange them for a different frame style, color or lens option. Start any of these through the contact form.
