The short answer

To see your computer screen better, sit about 25 inches away, roughly arm’s length, with the screen placed so your gaze is slightly downward. Match the screen’s brightness to the room, raise the contrast and cut glare. If the screen still looks soft, wear glasses focused for screen distance. Reading glasses focus closer, at about 20 inches. EV6™ holds clear focus from 18 inches to 6 feet, covering your phone and your monitor.

Five steps

Set up the screen

  • Move it to arm’s length

About 25 inches from your eyes, as the American Academy of Ophthalmology suggests.

  • Set the height

Position the screen so your gaze is slightly downward, the way the American Academy of Ophthalmology advises.

  • Raise the contrast

The AAO suggests increasing screen contrast as well as matching brightness to the room.

  • Cut glare

Match screen brightness to the room. A matte screen filter cuts glare, as the AAO suggests.

  • Take breaks

Every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

Glasses

Focus at the screen

Reading glasses are focused for about 20 inches, the distance of a book or a phone. A screen at arm’s length sits farther out. A single-distance pair in a lower power focuses there. The strength guide has the numbers.

EV6 is ordered in your reading power and eases it off as you look up, so the phone, the screen and the desk are all in focus in one lens.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is my computer screen blurry with my reading glasses?

Reading glasses focus at about 20 inches. Most screens sit farther away. A lower power, or a multifocal lens such as EV6, brings the screen into focus.

How far should my screen be from my eyes?

About 25 inches, roughly arm’s length, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

What glasses help me see my computer screen?

Glasses focused for screen distance. EV6 covers 18 inches to 6 feet, so your phone and your monitor are both in focus.

When should I see an eye doctor?

If your vision changes suddenly, or you have pain or headaches, see an eye doctor.

Which reading power should I order?

Order the power you’d use to read a book or your phone up close. That full power sits at the bottom of the lens. The lens eases it down for your screen and the room. If you already wear drugstore readers, their number is your starting point. Which power to order walks through it.
