The short answer

Progressive sunglasses are prescription sunglasses with progressive lenses. Your distance correction is at the top and your reading power is toward the bottom, so you can look down the road and glance at your phone in the same pair. Ours come in Grey or Brown Polarized, with three mirror finishes for $50 more. Every sunglass frame we sell is available with progressive lenses, from L&F, Ombraz, RAEN, STATE Optical and American Optical.

Why progressive

One pair of sunglasses for near and far

With single vision sunglasses, reading your phone, a map or your watch means lifting them up or swapping pairs. A progressive lens puts your reading power at the bottom of the sun lens.

We use the same wide-field progressive design in sunglasses as in our clear lenses. For driving or sport, we can set the reading zone lower to give you a bigger distance window. Add a note to your order.

How we make them

Lenses made to your prescription in California

Digitally surfaced

Computer-guided equipment cuts the curves for your prescription into a single lens blank, accurate to a hundredth of a diopter.

A full stack of coatings

An anti-reflective layer stops bounce-back glare. Oleophobic and hydrophobic layers keep fingerprints and water from sticking. A hard coat goes on last to resist scratches.

Edged for your frame

A multi-axis edger cuts each lens so your correction sits exactly in front of your pupils in the frame you chose. We inspect every lens at every stage. If we find a blemish, we start over with a fresh blank.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you get progressive lenses in sunglasses?

Yes. Every prescription sunglass frame we sell comes with progressive lenses, polarized as standard.

Are progressive sunglasses good for driving?

Yes. You see the road through the top and your dashboard or phone through the lower part of the lens. We can set the reading zone lower for a bigger distance window if you ask in your order note.

Do I need a special prescription?

Look for a number in the ADD column. ADD is the extra near-vision power your eye doctor prescribed for reading. If your prescription has one, you can order progressive lenses. If it doesn’t, single vision is the lens that matches it.

Grey or brown polarized?

Both are equally dark and block 100% of UV. Grey keeps colors natural and feels darker. Brown is warmer with more contrast.

How long do they take to make?

About two weeks to make your lenses, counted from when we have your prescription and PD. Shipping is free and takes about three days. Faster shipping can’t shorten production.

What’s your return and remake policy?

Return them within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Within 60 days we’ll remake your lenses at no charge for any reason, or exchange them into a different frame style or color. Scratched lenses are remade once, free, within the first year.
