The short answer
Our prescription sunglasses have polarized sun lenses made to order for you. We digitally surface each lens to your prescription and PD in our California lab, then fit it to your frame from L&F, Ombraz, RAEN, STATE Optical or American Optical. Choose single vision or progressive, in Grey or Brown Polarized, or one of three mirror finishes for $50 more. It takes about two weeks.
Polarized
Why our sun lenses are polarized
- Glare
A polarizing film inside the lens blocks the reflected glare off water, roads and car hoods.
- Darkness
Our grey is a G15, which lets through about 15% of visible light. Darker doesn’t mean clearer. Polarization does the work on glare.
- UV
Grey Polarized and Brown Polarized both block 100% of UV.
- Screens
Polarized lenses can black out some phone and dashboard screens at certain angles. Pilots often ask for non-polarized, which we make on request.

How we make them
Lenses made to your prescription in California
Digitally surfaced
Computer-guided equipment cuts the curves for your prescription into a single lens blank, accurate to a hundredth of a diopter.
A full stack of coatings
An anti-reflective layer stops bounce-back glare. Oleophobic and hydrophobic layers keep fingerprints and water from sticking. A hard coat goes on last to resist scratches.
Edged for your frame
A multi-axis edger cuts each lens so your correction sits exactly in front of your pupils in the frame you chose. We inspect every lens at every stage. If we find a blemish, we start over with a fresh blank.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What are polarized sunglasses?
Polarized lenses have a filter built into the lens that cuts glare, especially off water. Darker isn’t the same as clearer: the polarization is what handles glare. Polarized lenses can make some screens look dark.
What does a mirror finish do?
A mirror is mostly a style choice that adds a little comfort in bright sun. Blue and Gold Flash sit on Grey Polarized lenses, Emerald on Brown Polarized. Mirrors cost $50 more.
Can I get yellow, rose or gradient tints?
Not in prescription sun lenses. They come in Grey Polarized or Brown Polarized, plus Blue, Emerald and Gold Flash mirrors. We can make non-polarized grey or brown on request: order polarized, then reply to your order email.
Are prescription sunglasses polarized?
Every sun tint on our menu is polarized. Non-polarized grey or brown can be made at the same price: order as normal and reply to the order email.
Can I get progressive prescription sunglasses?
Yes, on every sunglass frame. Progressive sunglasses.
Can I get sunglasses that are clear indoors?
That’s our Indoor / Outdoor lens tint option, sold on prescription eyeglasses. Photochromic prescription glasses.
What prescription do you need?
Any licensed eye doctor’s eyeglass prescription works. Upload a photo or PDF when you order, or send it later from the link we email you. A contact lens prescription measures something different, so we can’t use one. Our team reviews every prescription before we start.
How long does it take?
About two weeks to make your lenses, counted from when we have your prescription and PD. Shipping is free and takes about three days. Faster shipping can’t shorten production.
Can I use FSA or HSA?
Yes. FSA and HSA cards work at checkout for prescription glasses. We’re out of network for vision insurance, so we send you a detailed invoice to submit for reimbursement. Insurance details.
