The short answer
The American Academy of Ophthalmology says computer glasses focused for screen distance may reduce eye strain during long sessions. It says they’re different from blue light glasses, which it doesn’t recommend. Look for a lens focused at your screen, about 20 to 26 inches, with an anti-reflective coating. EV6™ holds clear focus from 18 inches to 6 feet. Breaks help too: every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
What helps
At the desk
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s pages on computers and eye strain and on blue light.
- Sit about 25 inches from the screen
Roughly arm’s length, with the screen placed so your gaze is slightly downward.
- Follow the 20-20-20 rule
Every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
- Blink more often
People blink about 15 times a minute normally and 5 to 7 times a minute at a screen. Artificial tears help when your eyes feel dry.
- Cut glare
Match screen brightness to the room, increase contrast or try a matte screen filter.
- Wear glasses focused for the screen
The AAO describes computer glasses made for intermediate distance, about 20 to 26 inches, some of them multifocal.
Blue light
What the AAO says about blue light glasses
The American Academy of Ophthalmology says it “does not recommend any special blue light-blocking eyewear for computer use.” It also says computer glasses for reducing eye strain are not the same as blue light glasses.
EV lenses have blue light filtering built into the lens material at no extra cost. Choose EV Readers™ for the focus and the range.
EV6
Focused for the whole desk
EV6 puts your reading power at the bottom of the lens for the phone and eases it off toward the monitor and the person across the desk. Its corridor runs nearly edge to edge, so you can look across the screen without moving your head to find focus.
Every pair has a premium anti-reflective coating that cuts reflections from the screen and overhead lights.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Do computer glasses help with eye strain?
The American Academy of Ophthalmology says computer glasses may reduce eye strain during long computer sessions. They’re focused for screen distance, about 20 to 26 inches.
Do blue light glasses help with eye strain?
The AAO does not recommend blue light-blocking glasses for computer use. Breaks, screen position and the right focus are its advice.
What is the 20-20-20 rule?
Every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. The AAO recommends it for digital eye strain.
When should I see an eye doctor?
If you have pain, headaches or a sudden change in your vision, see an eye doctor. Glasses aren’t a substitute for an eye exam.
Do I need a prescription?
No. You order a reading power from +1.00 to +2.75 in quarter steps, the same way you’d choose a pair of readers. If you already wear prescription glasses, EV6 and EV20™ can be made to your prescription with the Custom Rx option.
What if they aren’t right for me?
You have 30 days from delivery to return them for a full refund, with a prepaid label. Within 60 days we’ll remake the lenses at no charge if the power or measurements need adjusting, or exchange them for a different frame style, color or lens option. Start any of these through the contact form.
