Frequently Asked Questions
EV Readers™ - Extended Vision Reading Glasses
What are EV Readers™?
EV Readers™ are extended vision reading glasses that provide clear focus at multiple distances—not just one like traditional readers. They let you see clearly from near to far without constantly switching glasses or dealing with the complexity of progressive lenses.
What's the difference between EV6™, EV20™, and EVinfinity™?
EV6™ Computer Readers: Clear focus from 18 inches to 6 feet. Perfect for computer work, reading documents, and desk tasks. Ideal if you spend most of your day at a workspace.
EV20™ Home & Office Readers: Clear focus from 20 inches to 20 feet. Great for reading, watching TV, cooking, and moving around your home or office. Our most versatile lens for everyday activities.
EVinfinity™ Outdoor Readers: Clear near vision plus full distance. Designed for outdoor activities like golf, fishing, hiking, and cycling. See your phone, your gear, and the horizon.
How are EV Readers™ different from progressive lenses?
EV Readers™ are simpler than progressives—they don't require a prescription or custom fitting. Unlike progressive lenses which have narrow viewing zones and require an adaptation period, EV Readers™ provide wide, clear viewing areas at their designed distances. They're a great solution for people who need reading help but don't want the complexity or cost of progressive lenses.
Which EV Reader should I choose?
Think about where you'll use them most:
- Mostly at a computer or desk? → EV6™ Computer Readers
- Around the house or office? → EV20™ Home & Office Readers
- Outdoor activities like golf, fishing, hiking? → EVinfinity™ Outdoor Readers

Reading Power & Measurements
How do I choose my reading power?
Reading powers range from +1.00 to +3.00 in 0.25 increments. As a general guide:
- Early 40s: +1.00 to +1.50
- Late 40s to early 50s: +1.50 to +2.00
- Mid 50s to 60s: +2.00 to +2.50
- 65+: +2.50 to +3.00
If you already wear readers, use that power. If unsure, we offer a printable reading test on our website, or you can visit your eye doctor for a reading assessment.
What is PD and how do I measure it?
PD (Pupillary Distance) is the distance between the centers of your pupils, measured in millimeters. It's essential for prescription glasses to ensure the optical centers align with your eyes. Visit our PD Measurement Guide for step-by-step instructions.
Do I need a prescription for EV Readers™?
No. EV Readers™ are reading glasses and don't require a prescription. You just need to know your reading power. However, our prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses do require a valid prescription from your eye care provider.
Lens Types & Options
What types of prescription lenses do you offer?
Single Vision: One prescription power across the entire lens. Best for distance vision, reading, or computer use.
Progressive: Multiple prescription powers that transition seamlessly from near to intermediate to far. No visible lines.
Do you offer transition (indoor/outdoor) lenses?
Yes! We offer photochromic lenses that automatically adjust to changing light conditions. They're clear indoors and darken when exposed to sunlight, giving you the convenience of eyeglasses and sunglasses in one pair.
Do you offer blue light blocking lenses?
Yes! Our blue light blocking lenses filter harmful blue light emitted from digital screens. They're ideal for people who spend long hours on computers, tablets, or phones and can help reduce eye strain and fatigue.
Are your prescription sunglasses polarized?
Yes! All our prescription sunglasses come with polarized lenses and 100% UV protection as standard. Polarized lenses reduce glare from reflective surfaces like water, snow, and roads.
What lens tints are available?
For sunglasses, we offer a range of tints including gray, brown, and green. Gray provides true color perception, brown enhances contrast, and green offers a balance of both. Some frames also come with gradient tint options.

We offer premium lens materials including:
- Polycarbonate: Lightweight, impact-resistant, and great for active lifestyles
- High-Index: Thinner and lighter lenses for stronger prescriptions
- CR-39: Excellent optical clarity at an affordable price
All lenses include anti-reflective coating, scratch resistance, and UV protection. Learn more on our Lens Treatments & Materials page.
