  • If you’ve ever wondered why your reading glasses work great for your phone but fall apart when you look at your computer screen—or why your progressives feel awkward at your desk—you’re not alone. As our days bounce between screens, documents, and the spaces around us, one pair of “reading glasses” isn’t always enough.

That’s why we created Extended Vision Readers—computer-friendly, workspace-friendly lenses designed for how people actually see. Choosing the right model depends on what you need your vision to do during the day. Below is a clear guide to help you choose between the EV6, EV20, and EVinfinity.

EV6: The Best Choice for Computer Work and Close-Range Clarity

    Perfect for:

    • Reading your phone or a book
    • Working on a laptop or desktop monitor
    • Clear vision across your immediate workspace (up to ~6 feet)

If your primary goal is to see clearly up close and at your computer screen, the EV6 is the lens we recommend. It’s designed specifically for near and mid-range vision—roughly 18 inches to about 6 feet—making it ideal for reading, laptop use, dual monitors, and general desk work.

The EV6 offers the widest peripheral vision and the smoothest transitions between your phone, your keyboard, and your monitor. Unlike traditional progressives, the EV6 doesn’t force your eyes into a narrow reading corridor. Everything in your immediate workspace stays crisp and natural.

If your day revolves around screens and tasks within arm’s reach, the EV6 is the specialist. Your EV6 lenses can be made with frames by L&F, Raen, Ombraz, and STATE Optical.

EV20: For Reading, Computers, and Seeing Across the Room

    Perfect for:

    • Switching between reading and your computer
    • Seeing clearly across your home or office (to ~20 feet)
    • People who don’t want to remove their glasses when they stand up or move around

The EV20 gives you the same clear up-close and computer-range vision as the EV6, but with additional clarity for objects across the room. It’s a great choice if you want a pair of readers that stay useful even when you step away from your desk.

Because the lens transitions all the way from 18 inches to about 20 feet, the peripheral vision isn’t quite as wide as the EV6—but the trade-off is worth it if you want a more versatile indoor lens.

Think of the EV20 as your “all-around indoor” extended-range reader with a wide range of styles available by L&F, Raen, Ombraz, and STATE Optical.

EVinfinity: Distance Vision + Reading in One Progressive Lens

    Perfect for:

    • Seeing clearly into the distance outdoors
    • Reading your phone or map when you glance down
    • Active lifestyles that require both distance and near clarity

The EVinfinity is our true progressive-style Extended Vision design. It transitions from up close (around 18 inches) all the way to infinity, giving you real distance vision while still allowing you to read when you look down.

Because the transition range is much larger, the vision corridor becomes more narrow than in the EV6 or EV20, and you will use some light head movement—similar to traditional progressives.

If you spend time outside, hiking, navigating, or simply want distance clarity without giving up close focus, the EVinfinity is a great fit, especially paired with armless frames by Ombraz or with Raen's timeless styles. However, we don’t recommend it if your primary use is reading or computer work—that’s what the EV6 is built for.

The Quick Guide: Which EV Reader Should You Choose?

    • Choose EV6 if you want the clearest, widest vision for computer work, reading, and tasks up to 6 feet.
    • Choose EV20 if you want clear reading + computer vision plus the ability to see across a room.
    • Choose EVinfinity if you need distance vision and reading in one lens and spend time outdoors.

If your main focus is up close—books, phones, laptops, monitors—the EV6 will always give you the most comfortable and natural viewing experience.

And if you want help picking the right lens for your exact setup, we’re always happy to guide you. Contact us and we'll get right back to you. Choosing Extended Vision Readers should feel easy—and we’re here to make sure you get the perfect pair.

What are progressive glasses, who needs them and how do they help people see more clearly

Progressive glasses are typically prescribed to individuals who have difficulty seeing both near and far. This condition is known as presbyopia and it usually occurs as people age. Presbyopia is a natural part of the aging process and typically begins to develop around the age of 40. If you find yourself holding things further away to read or switching glasses frequently, you may be a candidate for progressive glasses.

    Computer Glasses. What and Why
    Computer Glasses. What and Why

Reading glasses can help to see your phone clearly. But then your computer screen gets blurry and you can't see the person approaching your desk unless you take them off - or worse - slide them down your nose so you can peer over the top of the frames.  Extended Vision™ reading glasses are custom-made computer glasses that are optimized for the most comfortable vision for your up-close and middle-distance vision zones - producing a seamless, clear view of everything from 6 inches to 6 feet with our EV6, or up to 20 feet with our EV20, or wherever you need to see with our EVinfinity.
